The Total Package Part 2: The Right Look
In a previous article, I identified five qualities a superstar had to possess in order to be considered the total package: technical ability, charisma, mic skills, the right look, and the "it" factor. I also wrote about ten superstars who mastered the art of technical wrestling. In this article, I'll look at what it means to have the right look and ten superstars who have/had it.
So what does it mean to have the right look? Basically, it means a superstar looks like they could be the face of the company and a World champion. This is actually a lot more important than you might think. CM Punk and Daniel Bryan took time to get to the top of the mountain because they were seen as scrawny. Goldberg and Brock Lesnar on the other hand, shot right up the ladder. Sure, there were other factors involved, but you can't deny having the right look was a part of it. In this article, we'll look at ten superstars who personified the right look.
1. Goldberg- Like I stated earlier, Goldberg's look helped him get to the top. Not only does he have a very impressive physique, he has a hungry look in his eyes. If the WWE tried to give an unbeaten streak to a less imposing guy, it would definitely not gone over as well.
2. Brock Lesnar- If you look at a picture of Lesnar, you can see just how imposing he looks. Not only is he freakishly muscular, but he has a steely facial expression. If you were a WWE superstar and saw him in the other corner, you would definitely be scared.
3. Triple H- HHH might be smaller than Lesnar and Goldberg, but you can't deny he looks like a wrestler. The man used to be a bodybuilder after all. Even now, 19 years after making his WWE debut, he's in great shape. The whole King of Kings entrance doesn't hurt either.
4. Big Show- Let there be no mistake about it, Vince McMahon loves big guys. They look impressive and can be booked dominantly. Big Show is no exception to this. He's 7'4", weighs in at 425 lbs, and won the WCW World Heavyweight Championship in his first match.
5. Randy Orton- The former WWE World Heavyweight Champion may not be a big man or be a mass of muscle, but he still looks like a WWE superstar. If you looked up the phrase "lean and mean", there would be a picture of Orton next to it. The menacing look in his eyes help as well.
6. Ultimate Warrior- The late Ultimate Warrior was one of the most impressive looking superstars of his era. His bulging muscles, face paint, and arm tassels all gave him a look that made him stand out from other superstars.
7. Steve Austin- While he was known as The Ringmaster he didn't look too great, but you can't deny that he looked impressive when he was "Stone Cold" Steve Austin. His whole look nicely contributed his rebellious and badass attitude.
8. The Rock- As Rocky Maivia, he looked kind of dorky, especially because of his hair. When he became The Rock, things totally changed. His hair was cut shorter, he wore sunglasses, and his muscles were accentuated. He looks great bald, too.
9. The Undertaker- When it comes to having the right look, The Undertaker is certainly up there. His ring attire is awesome (he knows how to rock a trench coat and a hat). His height and hair also look cool. Oh, and you can't forget his eye thing.
10. John Cena- The very muscular John Cena definitely has the right look. He's fit as a fiddle, good looking, and appears very clean-cut. No wonder the WWE chose him as their poster boy.
