10 Ways to Improve the Divas Division

The Divas division has been struggling for a few years now. Fans don't really care about them, even with the success of Total Divas. Long gone are the days of Trish Stratus and Lita, divas who truly made an impact on the WWE and are still regarded highly favorably. Some people are calling for the Divas title to be disbanded but that would completely destroy the division. At least the title gives them a storyline. Instead, we'll look at 10 ways to improve the division.

10. Mixed Tag Matches- At SummerSlam 2013, we saw Dolph Ziggler and Kaitlyn team up to take on Big E Langston and AJ Lee. The match wasn't particularly good but at least it happened. It gave some nice exposure to the divas. If the WWE wants to make the division more prominent, they should book more mixed tag matches. I'm not talking about Fandango and Layla vs. Santino and Emma, I'm talking more along the lines of Paige and Sheamus vs. Emma and Ziggler. 

9. Have Matches with Stipulations- Think about it, when was the last time you saw a divas match with an actual stipulation? The last one I can think of is the No Count-out, No Disqualification, Loser Leaves WWE match between Layla and Michelle McCool at Extreme Rules 2011. Since then, we haven't really had anything out of the ordinary. It would be fun to see something out of the ordinary, such as a Falls Count Anywhere or 2-out-of-3 falls.

8. Let Emma Be Free- Emma is a very talented wrestler, no doubt about it. All you have to do is watch NXT Arrival for proof of that. Unfortunately, that talent hasn't exactly been on display. Instead, we get terrible comedy segments between her and Santino. To showcase her full potential, the WWE must let her go free. She could have some solid matches with the likes of Naomi, Natalya, and AJ.

7. Bring Up Charlotte- On NXT Takeover, we saw one of the best diva matches of the century when Natalya took on Charlotte Flair for the vacant NXT Women's Championship. It's clear that Charlotte has great potential and will be a future mainstay in the Divas division. But now that she's a champion in NXT, it could take a few months for her to be called up. But when she is called up, she'll definitely make an impact on the main roster.

6. Real Characterization- How can we get invested in a diva if they have no character? We just see them as attractive ladies who prance about before the main event. If there was a character that genuinely sparked the interest of the division, then the fans would actually pay some attention to the divas.

5. Better Match Positioning- On a pay-per-view, a divas match usually precedes the main event. This is done so fans can take a break before settling in for the main event, which is usually about 25 minutes long. This basically means that the divas match is the least important and that the WWE doesn't really care about it. That has to change if the division is to be taken seriously at all.

4. Real Storylines- Let me say it now, Natalya's paintings (as bad as they were) do not make a real storyline. How desperate must the WWE be for storylines if they use that? No fan will take a storyline about a bad painting seriously. Also, if a fan doesn't watch Total Divas, they would be totally confused. If a good storyline is in play, the fans will be interested.

3. Get Stephanie McMahon Involved- Right now, Steph is completely focused on Daniel Bryan and the WWE World Heavyweight Championship. That of course, can't last forever. After that, she needs new storylines. One idea would be to get her involved in the divas division. It would instantly bring some credibility. Plus, how cool would it be to see her get into a verbal joust with AJ?

2. Break Up The Funkadactlys- If you watch Total Divas (which I will never admit to doing), you know that Cameron is quite annoying and a bit of a brat. Even if you don't, you still probably don't like her. Naomi on the other hand, you have to like. She's athletic, fun to watch in the ring, and a future Divas champ. Plus, she's married to Jimmy Uso. Naomi will be a big part of the divas division for the next few years, so why not push her now?

1. Give Them Mic Time- Last year, AJ gave one of the best mic moments of the year when she talked about Total Divas. It was a genuinely great moment for the division. Then, at Payback last Sunday, Brie Bella got a great response from the crowd. This is the easiest thing the WWE can do to stimulate the division. Even just by giving a diva like Paige five minutes or so to cut a promo would do wonders for the division.
