5 Reasons Why the Seth Rollins Turn is Best for Business
On Raw this week, we saw the unthinkable happen: Seth Rollins turned on The Shield. This was a day after the Hounds of Justice went to war with Evolution. No one saw this coming, I repeat: no one. This was a guy who called his fellow stablemates brothers. Nonetheless, in one of the most shocking Raw endings of the year, Rollins attacked Roman Reigns and Dean Ambrose with a steel chair.
Many fans hated the turn. Why build The Shield up so high and then tear them down? It seems like a total waste. I on the other hand, believe it was the right call. As much as I hate to see the leather-clad trio break up, it's the right move, and here are five reasons why:
5. Furthers Rivalry Between The Shield and Evolution- For about three months now, The Shield has been battling The Authority. First the Hounds took on Kane and New Age Outlaws, then they fought Evolution twice. After Payback, it really seemed that the rivalry might be ending, but that changed when Rollins betrayed The Shield. The rivalry would have gotten boring without the turn. Sure, the first two Shield/Evolution clashes were great, but a third clash would have been tiresome. The Rollins turn totally freshens the rivalry up.
4. Shock Value- If anyone was going to betray The Shield, all bets were on Dean Ambrose. After all, Ambrose is supposed to be a top heel but Rollins? He's supposed to be a good guy. Many even had him pegged as the next anti-Authority rebel. The betrayal itself was shocking. One moment, The Shield was standing tall in the ring, the next Rollins was nailing Reigns with a steel chair. This segment will easily make a Best of Raw DVD a few years from now.
3. Positions Reigns to be a Top Face- Make no mistake about it: Roman Reigns is the future of this company. When he does branch out to singles competition, he'll be a top face competing for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship. Of course, he can't be a singles star while with The Shield. Rollins splitting up from the group is a step in that direction. Getting betrayed by Rollins give face value to Reigns, who will be one of the top three faces in the WWE when he becomes a single star.
2. It Sets Up a Possible Face Turn Against Evolution- Like I said before, this whole thing came out of nowhere. No one saw this coming. It wasn't even in the Raw script. In fact, it doesn't even seem as if the creative team has come up with a motive yet. That would explain why on SmackDown, Seth Rollins refused to explain his betrayal. So, what if the whole move was a trick? The Shield wanted to put an end to Evolution permanently, so they had Rollins pretend to double cross Reigns and Ambrose. A few weeks from now, Rollins turns face again and The Shield pounds Evolution into the ground. The look on Triple H's face when he realized he had been tricked would be priceless. It's not everyday you see a master of psychological warfare like Triple H get outsmarted.
1. Makes Rollins a Top Heel- All three members of The Shield are future stars. As mentioned before, Reigns will be one of the top faces in the next few years. In about seven years, Reigns will be the poster boy of this company. Ambrose, with his mic skills and tendency to snap, will be one of the top heels in five years. You can bet that both of them will be WWE World Heavyweight Champion in the future. As for Rollins, his future is a little unclear. Sure, he's one of the most talented wrestlers in the company, but that doesn't necessarily mean he will become a top star. Look at Dolph Ziggler. He's very talented in the ring and over with the fans, but that isn't helping him. Rollins could have gotten stuck with the same fate, but this turn could have saved him. That alone established himself as a top heel. He could have top level feuds with guys like Daniel Bryan and John Cena. The future is very bright for him
Do you think Seth Rollins turning on Roman Reigns and Dean Ambrose was a good idea? Comment and let me know.
