Stock Check: 6/10/14
In this blog, I've started quite a bit of series, including Best of the Week, Worst of the Month, Raw Review, Stars of the Night, and Predictions. While I will be continuing those, I felt the need to start a new segment. So, allow me to present: the very first Stock Check. It's a simple concept, rather like the wwe.com's Power Rankings. I basically chart the trends of some superstars, teams, stables, etc. Five go up, three stay even, and five go down. Now, our first ever Stock Check.
Up:
RybAxel- At the beginning of the year, RybAxel was considered a very lowly tag team. No one expected them to go anywhere. In the last number of weeks though, things have started looking up for them, however. They beat the Rhodes brothers at Payback, beat Goldust and Sin Cara the next day, and beat Goldust and R-Truth yesterday. It's still unlikely that they will win the tag team titles this year, but it's more likely now.
John Cena- Cena looked very impressive in his match at Payback, which was a great match. By coming out on top, the former WWE Champion proved he is still the top star in this business. He also teamed up with The Shield yesterday to defeat the Wyatt Family in a great match. He even got some loud cheers on Raw.
The Usos- Even though they didn't have a match at Payback, the tag team champions looked strong in the match between Cena and Wyatt. Then, on SmackDown, they beat RybAxel. Yesterday, they beat the team of Damien Sandow and Fandango. It looks like the next challenger to their titles are Luke Harper and Erick Rowan, which should make for a great rivalry.
Evolution- At Payback, Evolution was taken out in a clean sweep by The Shield. Then, Batista quit on Raw. It seemed like Evolution was done, but then came the major shocker: Seth Rollins joined Evolution. That, and Seth Rollins's win on SmackDown, gives them huge momentum.
Alberto Del Rio- The Mexican Aristocrat shot back into the title picture after beating Dolph Ziggler to qualify for Money in the Bank. It's doubtful that he will win the championship, but at least he's back in the main event.
Even:
Los Matadores- El Torito beat Hornswoggle at Payback and Los Matadores beat Heath Slater and Drew McIntyre the next day. That's two wins in two weeks, but the fact that they've come in a very one-sided rivalry doesn't help them move up the ladder.
Rusev- In the last 10 days, Rusev has beaten Big E, Zack Ryder, and Xavier Woods. Big E was the only one who looked remotely impressive in these matches. We all know Rusev is going to keep winning these matches, so he doesn't move up the rankings. Jobber wins can only get you so far.
Bad News Barrett- Yesterday, Bad News Barrett lost to Sheamus in a Money in the Bank qualifying match. Fans of the Intercontinental Champion need not worry however, he should still compete at the pay-per-view.
Down:
Damien Sandow- Believe it or not, Sandow's stock can go even lower. Yesterday, he dressed up in a leotard and jobbed to Jimmy and Jey Uso. This is where the WWE has to draw the line. Sherlock Holmes and Magneto is one thing, dancing with a ribbon is another.
Nikki Bella- Nikki Bella and Brie Bella are a package item. You can't have one without the other. So, while it's safe to assume that Brie Bella will be back, Nikki Bella is lost until then. Her only match of the last two weeks was a loss in a handicap match to Alicia Fox and Aksana.
Daniel Bryan- Bryan was stripped of his WWE World Heavyweight Championship on Raw after it was revealed that he could not compete at Money in the Bank. Here's hoping he has a speedy recovery and returns to the ring soon.
Xavier Woods- In a backstage interview with Byron Saxton, a very frustrated Woods spoke about his loss streak. This was moments after he lost to Bo Dallas. Hopefully, Woods will get back on track soon and start picking up some wins.
Goldust- In the last 10 days, Goldust has teamed with four different partners and lost four times. Obviously, his stock is going to go down. That could change however, next week. Cody Rhodes has promised Goldust a top-notch partner. If that happens, Goldust should be good to go.
I'm planning on doing a Stock Check every two weeks or so. If so, then the superstar's stock will be based on what happened since the last Stock Check. If the gap is a little longer, then I'll probably just look at the last two weeks.
