5 Reasons Why Stripping Daniel Bryan of the Title Was Good
On Raw two weeks ago, The Authority officially stripped Daniel Bryan of his WWE World Heavyweight Championship. They did so after it was announced that Bryan would be missing Money in the Bank, the second-straight pay-per-view he would miss. Hopefully, his neck will heal and he will be able to get back into the ring soon. The vacant championship is up for grabs in a ladder match at Money in a Bank. While fans are disappointed that the reign has come to an end, I believe it was for the better. Her are five reasons why.
5. He's Better as an Underdog- It's a classic wrestling story: heel champion versus underdog challenger loved by the crowd. When the challenger does overcome the champion, it provides for a feel-good moment and a sense of satisfaction. But what then? The new champion cannot stay on top of the mountain forever, he must come down eventually. Bryan's time at the mountain was much too short, but it can't be helped. However, he now has the opportunity to reach the top again. Originally, it seemed like the plan was for Bryan to drop the title to a returning Brock Lesnar at SummerSlam. Now, it's hard to predict who will be Bryan's opponent when he reenters the title picture. It is safe to say though, that it will be a heel who attempts to use any method to deter Bryan. The Goat has always been an underdog, ever since the moment he stepped into the WWE. Because of his size, few thought he would ever become a World champion. Now, he has the opportunity to prove his doubters wrong and win his fifth World title, and he'll do so as a beloved underdog
4. We'll Have a New Champion- Since the WWE World Heavyweight Championship was created in December of last year, we've only had two champions: Daniel Bryan and Randy Orton. On Sunday, we are guaranteed to have a new champion. That creates a very interesting scenario. Either Kane, Sheamus, Cesaro, Randy Orton, John Cena, Roman Reigns, or Bray Wyatt will become WWE World Heavyweight Champion. It's always fun to have a new champion. For one, it mixes things up. It also opens up the door for a lot of possibilities, such as future matches or feuds.
3. Vacant Titles Are Always Interesting- While having a new champion is fun, it's even more interesting to have a vacant championship. What will happen next? How will the WWE decide who the next champion should be? And who will that person be? It's not a common occurrence, but it has happened some times. When Edge retired in 2011, it set up an interesting scenario that led Christian to winning his first world title. When the World Heavyweight Championship was created in 2002, it was simply handed to Triple H, which was a bad idea. This time, the WWE handled it well. They created a ladder match for the vacant title at Money in the Bank, while also making a separate match for the briefcase.
2. Furthers Bryan vs. Authority Storyline- Last year, Pro Wrestling Illustrated named the Daniel Bryan vs. The Authority feud as the best of the year. It started in August when Randy Orton cashed in on Bryan at SummerSlam and ended when Orton beat Bryan at Hell in a Cell. The feud reignited in the beginning of this year when Bryan entered the WWE World Heavyweight Championship picture. Since then, he's been feuding with then. When he returns from injury, that feud will certainly resume. Hopefully we will get to see a few matches between him and Seth Rollins, which should produce some great matches. It's better than just going back to Kane, which fans were bored of, even though they had a great match at Extreme Rules. Taking the title off Bryan was the right move for this feud.
1. It Gets Heel Heat for The Authority- Not only does this continue the rivalry between The Authority and Daniel Bryan, it makes The Authority look villainous. After all Bryan had to do to climb the mountain and become champion, they just strip him of the title? Of course, they were forced to do that, but they did a great job of spinning it and getting a lot of heat for it. They even fired Bryan's wife, Brie Bella (who will probably return right before Season 3 of Total Divas airs). Armed with this and the addition of Seth Rollins, The Authority continues to be the top heel in the WWE. They were faltering a little before this, but now that ship has been righted. It will be interesting to see how they proceed from here.
Do you agree that stripping Daniel Bryan of the WWE World Heavyweight Championship was a good idea? Comment and let me know.
