The Top Ten Faces in the WWE
I don't expect this to become a regular series, but you never know. The point is to identify the top ten faces in the WWE at the moment. Of course, these things change at any point. I started compiling this list at the beginning of the week and have changed it three times. So what does it mean to be a top face? Well obviously, a superstar must be a face in order to make this list. Also, the superstar must be a real face, not a cool heel. So, John Cena qualifies, while Bad News Barrett does not. And how do I rank them? It's a combination of factors, including how successful the superstar is, how over with the fans they are, and how relevant they are. If this works out well, I may also rank the top heels and tag teams. But until then, enjoy this list and any possible future updates.
10. Mark Henry- The World's Strongest Man has been teasing a heel turn for a few weeks now, but is a face as of right now. He had a good feud with Rusev, but his feud with Bo Dallas has been uninspiring, to say the least. A heel turn would definitely spark up the former World Heavyweight Champion's career. Until then, he'll have to make do with being #10 on this list.
9. Jack Swagger- Four months ago, no one would have ever thought Jack Swagger would end up on this list, but here he is at #9. This was a face turn no one ever saw coming, so when it happened, it was pretty cool to witness. If I made this list two or three months ago, then Swagger would have been a few spots higher. Unfortunately for Swagger, coming out on the losing side of his feud with Rusev and being mostly directionless since then has hurt him.
8. Sheamus- You might be surprised to find the United States Champion, so low on this list, but it makes sense. The reason he's so low has nothing to do with him personally, it's just that everyone ahead of him has a lot of momentum. He also is coming off a short hiatus, which definitely helped to cool him down. And like John Cena, the former WWE Champion is receiving mixed reactions from the fans, so it's hard to judge how over he really is.
7. AJ Lee- Most of the time, it would be really hard for a normal Diva to crack this list, but AJ Lee is not a normal Diva. The fact that she makes this list at #7, ahead of guys like the United States Champion Sheamus, shows just how well she's doing right now. She's killing it on the mic, in the ring, and in just about everything else she does.
6. The Usos- The Usos are one of the best tag teams in recent history. They work extremely well with each other, are fun to watch in the ring, and have put on some great matches. For proof of this, look back at some of their matches in the last few months, from their title defense at Battleground to Jimmy Uso's Last Man Standing Match against Bray Wyatt in June. The only reason they're not in the top five: losing the tag team titles a month ago.
5. Dolph Ziggler- Ziggler is one of the IWC's and WWE Universe's favorite wrestlers, no doubt about it. Even if he wasn't the Intercontinental Champion, he would still make this list, albeit not as higher. Now, he is in the top five. It also helps that his reign looks to be a good one. Hopefully this works out, as the IC title needs a great reign to restore its prestige.
4. Daniel Bryan- A few months ago, Bryan would easily have taken the #2 spot on this list. He was putting on great matches and was absolutely loved by the WWE Universe. Unfortunately, his neck injury forced him to vacate his WWE World Heavyweight title and push him down this list. As soon as he returns however, he should move back up.
3.. Roman Reigns- In July, Reigns would be a lock for #2. He was one of the top stars in the company and portrayed as a real contender for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship. He's out of action right now due an incarcerated hernia, but should be back within a couple of months.
2. Dean Ambrose- The Lunatic Fringe is arguably the most popular superstar on the roster right now. Ever since he was betrayed by Seth Rollins, Ambrose has come completely unhinged. His wild brawling style and unpredictability has thrilled the WWE Universe on multiple occasions. The absence of Reigns has helped Ambrose, as it has helped him make a convincing case to be the next top star of WWE. If his successful run continues, Ambrose could very well become the next face of the company.
1. John Cena- No matter how hot Reigns, Bryan, Ambrose, or Ziggler gets in the next few months, they will never be able to take the top spot. That spot is held by John Cena, and has been held by him for a number of years now. Love him or hate him, it's impossible to deny he is the company's top babyface.
I might do some follow-ups to this post, especially if there are some major changes. The Usos reclaim the tag titles? Cesaro turns face? Randy Orton turns his back on The Authority? Daniel Bryan returns from injury to win the Royal Rumble? It all depends on what happens in the coming months.
