Hell in a Cell 2014 Predictions
It's been a bit of a wait since the last pay-per-view (six weeks to be exact), but Hell in a Cell is finally here. The wait has seemed torturous at times (especially due to some terrible booking and creative decisions), but we can finally rest easy now. In fact, the rest of the year should prove to be quite exciting. HIAC is today, Survivor Series (the last of the Big Four) comes next month, and TLC takes place in December. After that, the road to WrestleMania begins again. Just a little bit longer!
There have been all sorts of problems with the build up to this event. First, it felt like the WWE had forgotten all about their WWE World Heavyweight Champion (even though he is their only world champ). Also, no matches were announced for this PPV for a few weeks, leaving people wondering what exactly the WWE's plans were, and if they even had any (a valid point, that). But the WWE has cleaned up its act as of late, building up well to HIAC. So far, eight matches have been announced for the show, and we have a Mizdow TV segment on the pre-show. After starting out very strong with my predictions, I've stumbled quite a bit. This year, i'm 32 for 45. It's not bad, but it definitely could be better. The original goal was to end this year with at least 90%, but it doesn't look like that's going to happen. Still, I'm going to try and call this event as best I can.
United States Champion Sheamus vs. The Miz- The Miz and Damien Mizdow have become one of the most entertaining superstars in the company. This gimmick is one that could have fallen really flat, but these two make it work really well. At the very least, it's kept them relevant. The Miz's next challenge: the United States champ Sheamus. The Celtic Warrior has held the title since May, defending it against guys like Cesaro and Dean Ambrose, He's been kind of stale as of late, though he has had some quality matches. The Miz meanwhile, has been pretty hot. It makes sense for him to win the title, but this would be his third title win since August. That's a little too much, even for someone as over as Miz. Winner: Sheamus
Intercontinental Champion Dolph Ziggler vs. Cesaro in a 2-out-of-3 falls match- These two had great matches on the last episodes of Raw and Smackdown. Their match at HIAC should be a great one, possibly one of the best of the year. As for the winner? I'm going with Dolph Ziggler. It looks like the WWE is committed to keeping his push going (finally) and Cesaro is used for nothing more than putting guys over. Winner: Dolph Ziggler
Brie Bella vs. Nikki Bella (loser becomes the winner's personal assistant)- After Nikki Bella's surprisingly good performance last month at Night of Champions, these two could actually have a pretty decent match. It is also likely however, that they yell at each other for twenty minutes straight. Just a possibility. Anyways, expect Nikki Bella to win so she can torture her sister for a month. That'll get her heat (or at least the WWE hopes so) and having Brie win does absolutely nothing for this feud. There could be some interference by Stephanie McMahon. Winner: Nikki Bella
WWE Tag Team Champions Gold & Stardust vs. The Usos- These two teams had a great match at NOC a month ago, so expect them to have another good match tonight. Putting the titles on Gold & Stardust then was the right decision, as they were doing some excellent character work. Expect The Usos to get the title back when The Ascension debuts soon, but until then, Gold & Stardust should keep the titles. Winners; Gold & Stardust
Big Show vs. Rusev- Let's face it: Big Show isn't going to pin Rusev or force him to submit. Rusev has been built up too much to lose to a guy like Big Show at a B-shpw. As I've said before, he needs to lose to a top star at a Big Four event. It is possible however, that Show wins by disqualification or count-out. However, it is more likely that Rusev wins outright, probably by Rusev forcing Show to tap out to The Accolade. We could also see a heel turn by Mark Henry. Winner: Rusev
John Cena vs. Randy Orton (Hell in a Cell match and winner gets WWE World Heavyweight Championship match)- It's time for Cena vs. Orton part 535 (not really, but it sure feels that way). They already had a Hell in a Cell match in 2009 for the WWE Championship, so this isn't even original. The winner of this match faces Brock Lesnar for the title, presumably at Survivor Series. The obvious choice is John Cena, who faced Lesnar for the title at SummerSlam and NOC. He actually won the last match by disqualification, so he deserves another title shot. It would be interesting however, to see Orton take Lesnar on. Orton is a heel right now, but a face turn is probable, especially after getting taken out by Seth Rollins on Raw. Let's say Orton beats Cena and then feuds with Rollins to complete his face turn. Then, Orton takes on Lesnar for the title. That seems much more interesting than having Cena face Lesnar for the third time this year. However, it's more likely that Cena wins to continue his feud with Lesnar. Winner: John Cena
Divas Champion AJ Lee vs. Paige- When Paige first debuted, people had extremely high hopes for their feud. They thought it would be the saving grace of the Divas division. Their feud has been interesting and produced some good matches, However, it's gone on far too long. It started in April and has yet to end. They've tried to spice it up, like by adding Alicia Fox to the mix, but to no avail. This will be the fifth time in seven months they've clashed in a singles match for the title. Hopefully, this feud ends tonight, and the way to do that is for AJ to win outright. Winner: AJ Lee
Seth Rollins vs. Dean Ambrose (Hell in a Cell match)- This event is supposed to have a double main event, but that's just stupid. We know there is only one real main event, and that is the match that goes on last. It'll most likely be Cena/Orton, but it should be Rollins/Ambrose, the best feud of the year. Despite this rivalry starting in June, they've only had one PPV singles clash, so this feud feels fresh. Rollins is one of the top heels in the company and Ambrose is one of the top faces, so the winner of this match will no doubt get elevated in stature. The winner should be Dean Ambrose, who is red-hot right now. WWE needs to capitalize on his momentum and continue to push him. However, it's also possible that Rollins wins in order to get more heat. Both options are plausible, but it's more likely Ambrose wins. Winner: Dean Ambrose
I'm already feeling iffy about my two HIAC match picks, but I'm going to stick with them. The pay-per-view has already started, but I haven't watched any of it, so my predictions have not been tainted. Enjoy the PPV everyone and check back here later for a recap.
