5 Good Things with the Current WWE Product
The WWE is getting a lot of criticism right now, especially for their lackluster Raw episodes. The product has been suffering as of the last few weeks. Some of the current problems: a lot of talented wrestlers are being underutilized, a lot of storylines are being underdeveloped, and the lack of the regular presence of a WWE World Heavyweight Champion. Still, there's a lot of good things with the product right now. In this article, we'll look at five.
5. Great Matches- Fans are always raving about how much talent there is on NXT. What often gets overlooked is that there is also an unbelievable amount of talented wrestlers on the main roster as well. Sure, they may not always be booked well, but at least they're there. Guys like Stardust, Seth Rollins, Jimmy and Jey Uso, Luke Harper, and Bray Wyatt are all very talented and are very entertaining. When they are booked correctly (and even sometimes when they are not), the results are tremendous. There have been some excellent matches in the last few months, including John Cena vs. Cesaro on Raw, The Usos vs. Luke Harper & Erick Rowan at WWE Battleground, Chris Jericho vs. Randy Orton at Night of Champions, Seth Rollins vs. Dean Ambrose at SummerSlam, and the Money in the Bank Ladder Match.
Of course, great matches are enhanced with great feuds. While some feuds have been disappointing, like Chris Jericho and Bray Wyatt, there have been other notable ones, such as Seth Rollins and Dean Ambrose, John Cena and Brock Lesnar, and Dolph Ziggler and The Miz. As stated before, the product is struggling, but the in-ring quality has not suffered one bit. If anything, it's gone up.
4. Divas Championship
There have been five Diva title reigns this year, three for AJ Lee (who started the year as champion and is the current champ) and two for Paige, who debuted six months ago. This is a big change from last year, when there were only two reigns (one each for Kaitlyn and AJ). The entire Divas title picture has centered around these two for the most part, though Divas like Naomi, Nikki Bella, and Cameron. AJ and Paige have had a great feud thus far, including a double turn in June and a couple of great PPV matches.
A number of months ago, a lot of fans were clamoring for the Divas title to be cancelled. The AJ/Paige feud has gotten a little stale as of late, but it has brought new importance to the Divas Championship.
3. Tag Team Championship
The current tag team champions, Goldust and Stardust, have only been champs for one month, but they've made an impact. The bizarre duo has been quite entertaining, especially with their backstage antics. They won the titles at Night of Champions when they beat the Usos in a pretty good match. Before that, Jimmy and Jey had a great reign, including one of the best matches of the year against Luke Harper and Erick Rowan at Battleground, which was the follow-up to a pretty good match at Money in the Bank. Simply put, the tag team division is looking pretty good right now.
The last couple of years, the tag team division has been looking great. It's going to look even better once The Ascension comes up from NXT. With them, the Usos, Goldust &Stardust, and possibly Slater Gator, the tag division will be a bright spot for the WWE.
2. Intercontinental Championship
Ever since the World Heavyweight Championship was dropped, the Intercontinental Championship has become the second-most prestigious championship in the WWE. That didn't happen right off the back, but the title has looked better now. Dolph Ziggler looks like he can have the best IC reign since Cody Rhodes's first reign from 2010-2011. This is especially important now, since there isn't a regular WWE World Heavyweight Champion.
Dolph Ziggler is the perfect guy to elevate the title, seeing how talented he is in the ring and over with the fans. There was a bit of a shuffle with him and The Miz, their feud was actually pretty good, but now Ziggler looks set as the champion moving forward, and that's a good thing.
1. Dean Ambrose
Make no mistake about it, Dean Ambrose is the best thing happening in the WWE right now. His wild, unpredictable behavior, rebellious attitude, awesome promos, and brawling style has won the WWE Universe over completely. The Lunatic Fringe, who has already drawn comparisons to "Stone Cold", is arguably the most popular stars on the roster. He is so over in fact, that many fans have pegged him as the next top star of the WWE.
Anytime the WWE has a star this popular, you know they're doing something right. Even fans who are overly critical of the product admit that Ambrose is on fire. Look for him to be an integral part of the product for at least the next decade.
So as you see, there are some good things with the WWE right now. Sure, there are a lot of problems, but there's plenty of good to focus on as well. And isn't nice to be positive once in a while?
