10 Stars Ready for an Upward Trend
The title might be a little confusing, but it's actually quite simple. We're identifying ten superstars who are set to have a good rest of the year. The next five months or so will be better than their previous seven months or so. This article might have been more appropriate in June, but better late than never right? Before we start, I want to clarify what upward trend means. It doesn't necessarily mean big matches or championships. Rather, it has more to do with relevance. A superstar may not win all of their matches, but if they're having actual feuds and pay-per-view matches, it means that they are relevant. So, we now look at ten superstars primed for a good rest of the year.
1. The Miz- Seeing as The Miz was out of action for a few weeks recently (due to filiming The Marine 4), the fact that he's simply around automatically means he'll be on an upward trend. His biggest match so far this year was the Andre the Giant Memorial Battle Royal at WrestleMania, but he didn't even finish in the top six. He will be participating in the Battle Royal for the vacant Intercontinental Championship at WWE Battleground, but he probably won't win. He could have a feud with the U.S. Champion Sheamus, who he beat on Raw.
2. Rosa Mendes- For a diva who's been totally irrelevant this year, it's hard to see how anything will change. The answer: Total Divas. Mendes is the newest cast member of the reality show, which means she will definitely be more relevant. She's still a heel, so expect matches against the likes of Paige, Emma, and Naomi.
3. Jack Swagger- Unlike the other two previous entries, Jack Swagger has been relevant all year long. He competed in the Royal Rumble, competed for the Intercontinental title at Elimination Chamber, competed in the tag title match at 'Mania, competed at Extreme Rules, and competed in the Money in the Bank Ladder Match. But, now that he's turned face, the sky is the limit. At the beginning of the year, it seemed virtually impossible for him to be a top star, but now it seems very possible.
4. Eva Marie- At the beginning of the year, Eva Marie was known as one of the most incompetent wrestlers on the rosters. She could barely even carry on a singles match. Now, she's improved noticeably in the ring. She's still got a long way to go, but she's ready for a bigger role.
5. Chris Jericho- This is kind of cheating, seeing as he hasn't even been in a WWE ring up until very recently, but it still counts. It looks like Y2J will only be around for a few months, but it should be a very productive few months.
6. Luke Harper and Erick Rowan- Bray Wyatt may be the patriarch of the family, but Harper and Rowan are still in the spotlight, especially now. At WWE Battleground, Harper and Rowan take on the Usos for the tag team titles. They've also started getting more mic time now.
7. Xavier Woods- Ever since moving up to the main roster last year, Woods has yet to have a serious feud. That's a shame, as he is a talented wrestler, is charismatic, and is good on the mic. That looks set to change as he takes on NXT's CJ Parker. This should help elevate his stock.
8. Tyson Kidd- Kidd has become a lot more relevant in the last couple of months as he became a contender for the NXT Championship. Now that he's a heel, it opens a new door for him. Hopefully we see a feud with Sami Zayn in the coming months.
9. Justin Gabriel- What about Kidd's friend and former tag team partner? He has also turned heel recently, which means he will feature prominently on NXT. Look for him to have matches against top NXT faces such as Adrian Neville and Sami Zayn.
10. The Great Khali- The former World Heavyweight Champion has been totally irrelevant this year. He lasted 24 seconds in the Royal Rumble and had one elimination in the Andre the Giant Memorial Battle Royal. He will compete in the Battle Royal at WWE Battleground on Sunday, and should have some matches in the following months.
