Wrestling Rankings for 4/16/16
Some of you long-term readers might remember that I used to do a stock check where I would list check out the momentum of various superstars. I haven't done that in a while thought, and rather than bring it back, I decided to do something else entirely (and something that would force me to write every week).
With that being said, welcome to the first edition of the wrestling rankings. Here, we'll rank the top competitors in WWE, NXT, and TNA (with Lucha Underground, Ring of Honor, and NJPW to follow at some point in the future). These ratings are based solely on my discretion and will reflect the wrestlers' overall status in their promotion as well as what happened in the week. WWE will have 15 spots while the others will have 10. Let's get started.
WWE:
15. Natalya- The Queen of Harts may have come up short in her Women's Championship match on Raw, but she looked very impressive nonetheless. The current plans are for her to be the #1 Contender for the title all the way until Extreme Rules, so she should move up soon.
14. The Wyatt Family- Though they haven't exactly turned face yet, the Wyatts sure are acting like them. This could be just the thing to catapult Bray Wyatt into the stratosphere.
13. Baron Corbin- One of the newest NXT alumni has made a big impact on the main roster so far. On Smackdown he defeated former Intercontinental Champion Zack Ryder. Vince McMahon is key on Corbin, so he should be in the top ten soon.
12. Enzo Amore & Colin Cassady- The former NXT stars have made a huge impact in WWE so far. Amore has already proven himself to be one of the most charismatic stars and mic workers in the roster. On top of that, the duo beat The Ascension this week.
11. Sami Zayn- The former NXT Champion is one of the hottest superstars on the roster and he stood tall with Dean Ambrose to close out Smackdown.
10. Kevin Owens- The former two-time Intercontinental Champion was absolute gold at the commentary table on Smackdown. As his rivalry with Sami Zayn progresses, expect KO to move up.
9. The Miz- The Awesome One is riding high now that his wife Maryse has stepped in to be his manager.
8. Chris Jericho- Just when it seemed like Y2J was getting stale again, Jericho has gotten hot again after his heel turn. He should have a great rivalry with Dean Ambrose.
7. Cesaro- The Swiss Superman beat Kevin Owens on Raw to become the #1 Contender for the IC title. Ever since he returned from injury Cesaro has been on fire. Let's hope he holds on to that.
6. Dean Ambrose- The Lunatic Fringe continues to be one of the most entertaining superstars in all of WWE. He was golden while doing commentary on Smackdown.
5. Charlotte- The WWE Women's Champion may have tapped out to Natalya on Raw, but she stilled walked out as champ.
4. The New Day- The most entertaining trio in WWE didn't have any matches this week, but they did cut an entertaining promo on Raw.
3. Triple H- He may be a part-time superstar, but he does have a rematch for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship,
2. AJ Styles- Six months ago, no one would have believed that AJ would be the #1 Contender for the WWE World title, but here he is.
1. Roman Reigns- Yes, he may be getting booed relentlessly, but he's still the WWE World Heavyweight Champion.
NXT:
10. Tye Dillinger- He may have lost to Shinsuke Nakamura this week, but he came across as very charismatic.
9. Elias Samson- The Drifter has yet to win a major feud in NXT, but he's still one of their most protected superstars.
8. The Revival- They may have lost the titles in Dallas, but Dash & Dawson are still near the top of the tag division in NXT.
7. Austin Aries- Aries had a successful NXT TV debut this week as he beat Angelo Dawkins. As he gets more traction in NXT he will undoubtedly move up this list.
6. American Alpha- Though the NXT Tag Team Champions did not have a match, they will face off with Enzo Amore & Colin Cassady next week.
5. Shinsuke Nakamura- The newest NXT Superstar main-evented NXT this week in an entertaining match against Dillinger. He is possibly one of the hottest superstars in all of wrestling right now.
4. Bayley- The former NXT Women's Champion cut an impassioned promo on NXT after beating Liv Morgan. The rematch with Asuka should be great.
3. Samoa Joe- The former ROH World Champion was inactive this week, but he faces Apollo Crews next week.
2. Asuka- The new NXT Women's Champion was nowhere to be seen this week, but we should see her back next week at Full Sail.
1. Finn Balor- The NXT Champion stand atop our first-ever rankings simply because he's the biggest superstar in all of NXT.
TNA:
10. Tyrus- You may have forgotten this, but Tyrus still has a World title shot. He also won a tag team with Matt Hardy this week.
9. Eddie Edwards- The former tag champ looks like he will be facing off against Trevor Lee for the X-Division title in the coming weeks.
8. Jade- The newest TNA Knockouts champ is ready to lead the division in the coming weeks and months.
7. Trevor Lee- The current X-Division Champion has made a big splash in TNA so far. His partnership with Shane Helms could take him to new heights.
6. Michael Bennett- The Miracle is one of the hottest superstars in TNA and he should become a TNA Heavyweight Champion within a year or so.
5. Lashley- The former TNA Heavyweight champ is on a tear through the roster and will certainly take on Drew Galloway for the title in the near future.
4. Jeff Hardy- The Charismatic Enigma is one of the top faces in TNA right now and it looks like things are going to stay that way for a while.
3. Ethan Carter III- EC3 is one of the hottest TNA wrestlers on the roster and will no doubt be so for years to come.
2. Matt Hardy- His recent heel turn has re-energized his character and made him the top heel in the company.
1. Drew Galloway- The TNA Heavyweight Champion leads the first-ever rankings and will probably be at the top of the list again next week,
