Fastlane Predictions
The next WWE pay-per-view takes place today in Memphis. This is the first-ever edition of Fastlane, which replaced the Elimination Chamber PPV, which ran from 2010-2014. This is also the last PPV before WrestleMania. There are currently seven matches on the card, four of which are for titles. None are for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship, although Paul Heyman is scheduled to appear on MizTV on the pre-show. Let's get started with the predictions.
Intercontinental Champion Bad News Barrett vs. Dean Ambrose- Remember eight months ago, when Bad News Barrett was one of the hottest superstars on the roster? He was extremely over, was the Intercontinental Champion, and seemed poised for bigger and better things. Now, he's pretty much just a regular midcarder. Dean Ambrose was one of the hottest superstar on the roster just a few months ago. He's still pretty over, and it seems like the WWE is still interested in pushing him. So, it only makes sense for Ambrose to win the title here, beat Barrett again within a couple of weeks, and then have a high-profile title defense at 'Mania, most likely against a returning heel Sheamus. Winner and new Intercontinental Champion: Dean Ambrose
Goldust vs. Stardust- This feud began only recently when Stardust turned on his older brother. Many were hoping for this rivalry to happen this year, but more likely with Stardust as Cody Rhodes. After all, Cody Rhodes has the potential to be WWE World Heavyweight Champion, Stardust does not. Unfortunately, it looks like it will be a while until Rhodes comes back. Until then, we'll have to deal with these two feuding. I think Stardust wins this one, as Goldust has no need for a win. However, I could see a scenario where Goldust wins here, Stardust changes back into Rhodes, and then Goldust puts Rhodes over. Winner: Stardust
Dolph Ziggler, Erick Rowan, & Ryback vs. Seth Rollins, Kane, & Big Show- This six-man tag match has the potential to be a very good match, especially with two elite workers like Rollins and Ziggler in there. It seems like this match is only in place to set up Rollins's feud with Randy Orton (who will probably return during this match), as none of the other guys in this match (with the possible exception of Ziggler) will have a singles match at 'Mania. Orton will probably run some sort of interference, allowing Ziggler, Rowan, and Ryback to win. Winners: Dolph Ziggler, Ryback, & Erick Rowan
WWE Tag Team Champions The Usos vs. Cesaro & Tyson Kidd- Just a couple months ago, it seemed like The Usos were tag champs just so they could put The Ascension over. Now however, it looks like we have new favorites in town. The team of Cesaro and Kidd has been quite exciting and pretty over with the fans. I like how they got Natalya and Naomi involved (though that restaurant scene was atrocious). I think Cesaro & Kidd (or maybe The Ascension, who knows?) win the titles at 'Mania, as it would mean more. Winner: The Usos
United States Champion Rusev vs. John Cena- We're almost certainly going to get a rematch at 'Mania, where Cena ends Rusev's undefeated streak, brings America glory, and becomes the new US champ. While many people are skeptical about Cena being U.S. champ, I think it actually makes sense. If he had a long reign with title defenses against the likes of Luke Harper, The Miz, and Bad News Barrett, it would give those guys a rub and would raise the prestige of the title. I just hope they continue to push Rusev as a monster heel (which I think they will). So what happens at Fastlane? I don't see Rusev winning clean (he is facing Cena after all), but I do see him winning via DQ or count-out. Winner: Rusev
Divas Champion Nikki Bella vs. Paige- This could be a surpirsingly good match, seeing as how much Nikki Bella has improved in the ring over the last year and Paige is one of the top wrestlers in the technical division. I think Bella wins here so she can lose the title to Charlotte at 'Mania, who is due to be called up any minute. Winner: Nikki Bella
Roman Reigns vs. Daniel Bryan (winner faces WWE World Heavyweight Champion Brock Lesnar at WrestleMania)-The build-up to this match has been very interesting. We have the mutual respect thing going, but these two are not on good terms. They've even brawled all over ringside. The tag team turmoil match was fantastic that had a lot of different elements, including The Ascension showing a vicious side, Reigns having doubts about fighting his family, and Bryan and Reigns trying to one-up each other. This should be a very good match, as both of these guys should give it their all. The WWE is still interested in pushing Reigns, so I think he wins clean here. I also think the two of them will shake hands to try and get some love for Reigns. Winner: Roman Reigns
By the way, in case you're wondering: I went 4 for 6 at the Rumble (missed out on the Bellas and Cesaro & Kidd) and am 54 for 73 all-time. Enjoy the PPV everyone.
