Stars of the Night: Survivor Series 2014
Last week, Survivor Series, the annual WWE Big Four pay-per-view that takes place in the fall, happened. It was good. It was really good. Survivor Series may be one of the best pay-per-views of the year. The main event match (which was over 40 minutes long) was one of the best matches of the year and proved that the modern WWE Universe can appreciate longer matches. The rest of the card was pretty good. The Ambrose/Wyatt match was great, the tag title match was one of the best tag matches of the year, the Divas elimination match was pretty good (though a little long), and we had a new Divas Champion. The event has drawn criticism for being too focused on the main event, but it all worked out in the end, Let's check out the biggest stars of Survivor Series.
Before we get to the actual list, two honorable mentions: Tyson Kidd and Fandango. Kidd didn't have a match, but his antics after his wife's match were fantastic. Fandango meanwhile, was repackaged and is now a salsa dancer. This isn't going to lead to a huge push or anything, but he did pick up a PPV win over Justin Gabriel.
10. Triple H- Come on, do you really think Triple H is no longer going to show up just because The Authority is no longer in power? No, he'll still show up. Not only that, but HHH played the part of a desperate man trying to save his job perfectly. That fine acting gets him on this list.
9. Erick Rowan- The surprise member of Team Cena, Rowan actually made an impression on all those watching. When the spotlight shone brightest, Rowan delivered, looking quite impressive in the ring. Hopefully the WWE capitalizes on this.
8. Nikki Bella- In a match taking about 30 seconds long, Nikki pinned AJ Lee to become the new Divas Champion. What's more, she was supported by her sister Brie Bella, turning Brie heel. This means that Nikki could actually have a long title reign, instead of a transitional one (those are usually pretty short), like it was originally suggested.
7. Seth Rollins- Yes, Team Authority lost, but their captain looked pretty good. He eliminated John Cena and was the last member of his team. Now that Triple H and Stephanie McMahon are not going to be on TV full-time anymore, and Brock Lesnar is part-time, Rollins is officially the top heel in the WWE.
6. Naomi- Naomi and the rest of her team (Natalya, Alicia Fox, and Emma) beat the team of Paige, Layla, Summer Rae, and Cameron in a clean sweep, making the entire team Survivors. Naomi was the most impressive out of the group. She had two eliminations, including the final one. Now that Brie is a heel and AJ is reportedly going to be leaving the company soon, the opportunity for Naomi to step in and become the top face in the Divas division is there.
5. John Cena- Sure, Cena wasn't around to see his team win, but it was his team that won. What's more, the victory meant that Cena's quest to drive The Authority was successful. Cena is also getting some love from the IWC, who appreciate that he let Ziggler get the glory of winning the match for Team Cena.
4. Dean Ambrose- The Lunatic Fringe and Bray Wyatt had a great match. Though Wyatt did end up winning by DQ, Ambrose laid a huge post-match beat down on the Eater of Worlds. Though DQ finishes are usually annoying, this one worked, as it furthers the Ambrose/Wyatt feud.
3. Damien Mizdow- Those who are shaking their heads right now, I ask: how is Mizdow not in the top three? The crowd was totally into him and he picked up the pinfall for his team, earning him his first championship in WWE. Mizdow may be one of the hottest acts in WWE.
2. Dolph Ziggler- This is just like 'Mania earlier this year. Daniel Bryan gave a fantastic performance and won the main event, but he was overshadowed by Brock Lesnar. Ziggler was absolutely amazing in the main event match, but his performance was overshadowed by one man.
1. Sting- As incredible as Ziggler was, Sting stole Survivor Series. Even though his debut was spoiled online, he still got a great pop from the WWE Universe, who were loving everything he was doing. This may go down as one of the greatest WWE debuts of all time.
By the way, I went 4 for 5, which helps my overall percentage goes up. Thanks for reading, be sure to check back soon for more articles.
