Raw Review 7/28/14
First off, I would like to apologize. Not only is this post a few days late, I haven't posted an article in a week. I can attribute both of those things to the fact that I'm currently working on ( I kid you not) 14 different articles at the moment. Most are for this site, but some are also for my other page, nowthatspopculture.blogspot.com. I've been kind of neglecting that page, so I'm trying to focus on that now. Nonetheless, I will still do my very best to write articles for this site and upload them in a timely manner.
Last week's episode of Raw was a very interesting one. Though John Cena and Brock Lesnar did not meet each other, we know it will happen eventually. A lot of other feuds did progress however, so the buildup to SummerSlam is continuing. Let's look back at the most memorable segments on Raw from last week.
The match of the night was undoubtedly John Cena vs. Cesaro. Their first match earlier this year was one of the best Raw matches of the year, and this one was great as well. These two superstars pulled out all the stops for this match, and it showed. Cena got the win again (obviously), but Cesaro proved once again he could hang with the best of them.
You would think the Cena/ Cesaro match would be the main event, but instead that was a showdown between Stephanie McMahon and Brie Bella. That's right, the main segment of the show featured divas. This hasn't been done in years, but it worked well. Both Brie and Stephanie came out of the segment looking great, and that is no ordinary feat. Usually, one superstar/diva always comes out on top. Here, both girls looked good and fans got pumped for their match at SummerSlam.
The backstage segment of the night was with Goldust and Stardust. The two have been putting on memorable and entertaining segments for weeks now. The fans have been loving them and it's keeping the duo relevant. On this particular segment, the duo came a little closer to finding the "cosmic key". It was revealed to Stardust that "they have it". Now we don't know who "they" is, but whoever they are, they better watch out for this duo. This was a smart move by the creative team, as it gets these two talented performers in the ring again. Expect a feud with either the Wyatt Family or the Usos.
The biggest moment of the night came when R-Truth pinned Bo Dallas and ended his winning streak. This was a huge shock, as it seemed like Dallas would win easily and continue his streak. Instead, the former United States Champion rolled up Dallas and got the win. While it provided a memorable moment, this may have been the wrong decision. Imagine this: Dallas gets the win and no one remembers the match. Then, a little while down the road, Dallas is in a big match (say a pay-per-view match against Sheamus for the title) and he loses then. The end of the streak means much more then. Truth is not going to be helped by breaking the streak (he also beat Dallas by DQ on Smackdown). This was the only thing really keeping Dallas relevant, so the WWE Creative team needs to make sure some sort of storyline is in place for him. I would have had him go 21-0, equal to the amount of wins Taker got at 'Mania. Dallas could then brag about being on the verge of beating that streak and challenges any superstar to break it. This could lead to a match at SummerSlam against say, Adam Rose or Rob Van Dam. Instead, Dallas now has two singles losses to his name and nothing to really show for it. He has shown a new aggression though, which should come in handy in the future.
All in all, it was a great Raw. Roman Reigns got his ass handed to him (finally) and the new trio of Xavier Woods, Kofi Kingston, and Big E got dressed up to stand at ringside. As the buildup to SummerSlam continues, expect more entertaining episodes of Raw. Hopefully, today's episode will be the one where Cena and Lesnar finally come face-to-face.
